Please see attached on upcoming ride - I don't know what to tell you about the route - HWY 518 Las Vegas to La Cueva is an established state bike route La Cuevea to Ocate gets more interesting......I will have to try to keep you posted about more specific details.
I can certainly put people in touch with some other Locals who might have riden the route before.
I did a ride with Dough Hughes one time - that ride should have been called
"La Liendre Tourture" but that is another story for another time.
There are some great riders in Vegas - come join us...
e mail me directly if you have questions moriahmahoney@yahoo.com
Hello Fellow Cyclists!
We have a local Century Ride! The Bernstein 100! And a very special ride it is!
Joe Cooney and Doug Hughes started this ride up three years ago to visit their good friends, Carl & Karen Bernstein, out in Ocate, NM. The ride starts in Las Vegas and heads out Hwy 518 to Bernstein's place out in Ocate and returns. Sounds like a fun ride!

The Bernstein 100
Saturday, June 7, 2008
Time: Probably 7:00 AM.
Start Place: The Parking lot in the new shopping area acrossed from Walmart (old K Mart). (HWY 518 - locally known as 7th ST)
Course: Hwy 518 to La Cueva turn off - on to Ocate and back! There are a few details to work out like needing a person to volunteer to command a support vehicle that would take lunch and water out to us.
A very personal note: Karen Bernstein is striving to overcome cancer for the second time in three years and she is very enthusiastic for our coming out there. Carl has been told that we would stay flexible in case they might need to change the game plan.
The following is from Joe Cooney. I cannot word these thoughts any better than he has here, so please read the following:
For sure let's officially dedicate the ride to Karen. I don't think raising money for her is needed but I really like the idea of some kind of gesture of support; something fun that would make her smile. Maybe we could each pin a big cloth letter to the front of our jerseys at the beginning of the ride that would mystify everyone but would eventually spell "FOR KAREN" when we all arrived and assembled for a photo.??? (depending on how many riders we'd have.) We can figure out
whatever gesture we'll make in the coming weeks.
I think the large letter idea is really cool. If you have another idea of support for Karen, please send it.
Please consider joining us or perhaps getting someone to drive the support vehicle. If we all pitched in 10 bucks or so, that should cover gas and food/drinks/ice.
A good reason to ride,
John
